LO3 – Evaluation of Work

My comic Vampire Ruling Britain does not follow a typical Vampire storyline, it is a  action love story with a twist following a boy and a girl searching for their place in the world. I chose this story type for my comic as it is a timeless love story that never gets boring. The twist included in the story is one which is not normally seen in a  Vampire story,  in this case instead of the women being in trouble it is the man. This story line might be a step too far for the public due to it being a vampire based comic, sales may not be as strong as many people might be board of the Vampire crazes and what it may stand for in today's society. Critics may describe my comic as being similar to the film Daybreak (2008); this may be because of the theme of vampires ruling the land and humans used as a blood bank. Even though my comic might be compared to this it has a much deeper story of just Vampires, it is about loyalty and making the right decision in life. This meaning brings me onto the positive side of my comic; it is suitable for male and females of all ages as it has gory images, action fight scenes and young love.

My Vampire comic consist of a linear narrative storyline, it is a straight flowing plot with no brakes and interruptions with other stories. My comic is also a closed structure as if follows a typical love story of a character saving another, there are no gaps to fill in with extra information or other sub characters. As the comic is based on a Vampire storyline parallel this comic would be branded as a fantasy/ si-fi as it is set in a un realistic world were Vampires rule the land and Humans are fighting for their lives. The components which male up this comic include opening setting scene of the Vampires tension with the Humans, then there is conflict with the Vampires were Tyler defends his community. The effect of this is him getting captured; the climax includes him meeting Anna. The motivation of the story is him escaping to freedom, and coming back to save Anna to let them have a safe life.

The image construction of my comic is based on drawings and colouring pencil on an A4 sheet of paper. After I completed this stage of the production of the comic I finished editing the drawings and the page format in Adobe Photoshop. The shape of the characters drawn are in the style of American Western, the colour included in the comic as it is the colours of purple, black, green, brown and yellow. These colours are in fitted into the connotations of the characters, showing loyalty and evil.

My comic book does not include any slogans, but the two main caption of the comic on the front of the book tells the reader about the content within the comic. The pictures tell a story about the comic as they show the relationship of the two main characters and it shows the journey they have been on. These images with the title of the book give the audience a quick synopsis to draw the viewer to read the blurb, enticing them to buy the comic which increases sales. The significations of the comic book such as the cultural factors included in the book show the audience that kindness to one other is the most importance aspect of keeping the world livable. If people are not kind in the world it will invite evil in which connotes the reason of the Vampires in the comic. The representation of the this comic is to stay close to one another and respect people to make sure we keep the balance of the world happy, this comic sets a great example on readers of all ages, genders and race as it shows people how to live a better life with the decision you make. In the comic the two main characters make this decision to leave the evil behind and run away to make a better life for them with the kindness they share with each other.

If I had the opportunity to complete this comic again I would do a few thing differently, this would include the quality of the drawings. Even though I tried really hard to make sure that the drawings were to the highest standard I could make them to be, I could have tried to make them even more comic like by experimenting with the shapes of the characters. The other factor I would have change about my comic would have been the process of adapting the chosen storyline. I worked hard on coming up with plenty of different storyline options for the comic book, but what I did not do was come up with different story versions for the vampire idea. If I had completed this I believe my comic storyline would have been more creative and made it stand out from the rest, making sure the storyline would have been adapted to suit the adventurous feel of comic books.
